Pete Postlethwaite

Going Solo

02 June 2003

Pete Postlethwaite, star of Brassed Off, In the Name of the Father and Jurassic Park, will make his debut on the Australian stage in June, in the widely-acclaimed Scaramouche Jones. This new, one-man show has swept Britain’s theatrical scene since its premiere at the Dublin Theatre Festival in October 2001.

Postlethwaite has received rave reviews for his humorous and poignant portrayal of Scaramouche Jones, the pale-faced child of a Gypsy whore who spent his whole life as a clown. From his midnight birth on New Year’s Eve 1899 in a Trinidad knocking shop, Scaramouche Jones’ life is a dramatic odyssey through a series of amazing adventures. His tale takes us to the brink of crumbling empires, exploring some of the darkest moments of the twentieth century.

Written by renowned playwright Justin Butcher, this fantastic story is an atmospheric and unforgettable meditation on humankind. The combined efforts of director Rupert Goold, designs by Ashley Martin-Davis and music and sound by Adam Cork, make this a powerful theatrical experience that you won’t soon forget.

Pete Postlethwaite’s film career spans a number of major hits, including an Oscar nomination for his role in In the Name of the Father. He has also appeared in Baz Lurmann’s Romeo and Juliet, Steven Spielberg’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park, The Usual Suspects and Brassed Off. For television, his many roles include the BAFTA-nominated The Sins, Lost for Words and Martin Chuzzlewit.
