Urs Fischer comes to Cockatoo Island

29 March 2007

Following on the success of Christo & Jeanne-Claude's Wrapped Coast – One Million Square Feet (1969) and Jeff Koons' floral Puppy (1995) outside Sydney's MCA, Kaldor Art Projects is bringing another international contemporary artist to Sydney – Urs Fischer – who will be transforming the old convict precinct at Cockatoo Island with a new site specific work unveiled on 20 April 2007.

A reputed 'radical' in the world of contemporary art, the exciting young Swiss artist will present his latest work before he heads off to join Ugo Rondinone in representing Switzerland in this year's Venice Biennale in June.

With a reputation for spontaneously creating bold, imaginative and cutting-edge work, Fischer will complete the installation on site just days before the opening.

Fischer experiments with found objects and organic matter, and readily transforms available materials such as wood, wax, glass and plastic into powerful sculptures with casual virtuosity.
