2007 African Cultural Festival at Adelaide Festival Centre

The 3rd annual African Cultural Festival will be held on Saturday 3 March, from 10am to 5pm, at the Adelaide Festival Centre Terrace. Entry is free.
The 2007 Festival will be officially launched at 1pm by The Hon Michael Atkinson MP, Minister for Multicultural Affairs; Senator the Hon Amanda Vanstone; and State Director of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, Greg Kelly.
The African Cultural Festival, which is a celebration and collaboration of different African community members who have settled in South Australia, attracted over one thousand people in 2006.
The festival will showcase African culture, music and food. African communities who have settled in South Australia will present traditional music and dance. Communities from Sudan, Burundi, Tanzania, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Congo and Senegal will showcase their traditional food, art, craft, music and dance.
Groups appearing on the day include Sierra Leonean Cultural Group, Djef Djel Drum (Senegalese Drumming Group), Liberian United Women's Cultural Group, Nuer Dancing Group (Sudan), AfroKeeko Band (Ghana) and Congolese Cultural Group.
The day also includes henna and face painting, coffee ceremonies and more.
Adelaide Festival Centre CEO and Artistic Director, Douglas Gautier, says, "This festival is a great example of what we're trying to achieve in making the Adelaide Festival Centre a place for people to come and share their stories, their cultures and their passions".
The 2007 African Cultural Festival has been organised by the African Communities Council of South Australia, the Migrant Resource Centre of South Australia and the Adelaide Festival Centre.
