Australian National Academy of Music first year recital program

06 February 2007

The recently released Calendar of Concerts and Events for the first half of 2007 from the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) is full of exciting opportunities for Melbourne concertgoers or visitors.

ANAM is probably Melbourne's best kept musical secret, where you can hear virtuoso musicians, attend masterclasses by world experts and explore cutting edge classical music ideas - mostly for free or for very little, and all open to the general public.

ANAM is a national centre of excellence for the further development of young musicians, with outstanding talent, capability and dedication, who aspire to significant national and international performing careers.

The Academy offers a unique program involving constant interaction with internationally recognised artist/teachers, providing a high benchmark for its students to develop their skills. Where possible, Academy Musicians also have the opportunity of performing with the Academy's extended Faculty and Visiting Artists.

Building on the success of the 2006 programme, Brett Dean, violist, composer and ANAM Artistic Director says" you will find music new and familiar. One of the opportunities for me as Artistic Director of ANAM is to program music from paths less well travelled. This is not to say that there will not be plenty of wonderfully virtuosic music throughout."

This year ANAM welcomes for the first time visiting artists Artemis String Quartet, Wissam Boustany (flute), Matthew Barley (cello), Mark Gaydon (bassoon), Seung-Eun Lee (oboe), Emily Beynon (flute), Kim Bak Dinitzen (cello), ELISION Soloists, Jerusalem Quartet and Leslie Robertson (viola).

Making return visits to ANAM are Roger Benedict (viola), John O'Donnell (scholar), Lisa Moore (piano), Martin Bresnick (composer) and Fabian Russell (conductor). Their masterclasses are all open to the public.

The concerts, lectures and masterclasses are generally held at ANAM's homebase, the South Melbourne Town Hall. For full details visit the ANAM website.
