The Freedman Foundation Travelling Scholarship calls for entries
26 May 2006
Painters, photographers and sculptors aged 30 or under can apply for one of four scholarships of $5,000 each, awarded annually for overseas study and research. The scholarship, administered by the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA), was established in 2000 by the Freedman Foundation to encourage and assist emerging Australian visual artists in the development of their careers.
The Travelling Scholarship enables young visual artists to undertake overseas travel and formal study, a residency or a planned mentorship program, as well as informal study for a planned research project.
‘The Freedman Foundation established the scholarship to give artists an early career opportunity to travel and study overseas. NAVA, the national peak body representing the visual arts and craft in Australia, is proud to be administering this important scheme. One of NAVA’s aims is to assist artists’ professional development through research and providing direct services and publications. We are delighted that over the period of five years, more than 30 young artists have had the development of their careers substantially boosted through this generous philanthropic gift,’ said Tamara Winikoff, Executive Director of NAVA.
The announcement of the 2006 scholarship winners will be made at Depot Gallery in Danks St, Waterloo NSW, where an exhibition of works by the previous Freedman Foundation travelling scholarship winners will be held.
