Sydney Life Photography Exhibition and Prize call for submissions
15 May 2006
The City of Sydney is inviting photographers to submit works for Sydney’s premier public photography exhibition, Sydney Life, which carries a prize valued at $10,000.
26 images will be selected and enlarged for exhibition along the beautiful grand central walkway of Hyde Park North as part of the fifth annual public art festival Art & About, from 3 – 22 October 2006.
Last year 900 images were submitted by 450 photographers. A number of the winning images were subsequently portrayed in the City of Sydney’s Annual Report and State of the Environment Report.
The Sydney Life Prize will be awarded for the most outstanding work in the exhibition, as decided by a distinguished panel of judges - Sandy Edwards (Curator, Sydney Life and Curator, Stills Gallery), Alan Davies (Curator of Photographs, State Library of NSW) and Bec Dean (Curator, Australian Centre for Photography).
The prize, sponsored by the City of Sydney and AMP Capital Investors, is comprised of $5,000 in cash and a $5,000 investment in the AMP Capital Investors Sustainable Future Australian Share Fund.
“Sydney Life is a showcase for the works of emerging, mid career and established photographers. It reveals the city’s diversity, from the beautiful to the ugly, the mundane to the grand,” Curator Sandy Edwards said.
Artists are invited to submit work that makes an original and contemporary statement about Sydney Life.
Entries must be received at the City of Sydney by 5pm Tuesday 11 July 2006. The full curatorial brief and information package is available via the website or on 02 9265 9254.
Sydney Life photography exhibition is part of Art & About, a festival of arts events and activities to brighten the city and enrich the cultural landscape.
