Mietta Song Recital Award announces semi-finalists

The Mietta Song Recital Award Committee has announced the eight semi-finalists from Australia and overseas for the 2006 Mietta Song Recital Award.
The Mietta Foundation will host the best of Australian and overseas vocal talent, accompanied by award winning pianists as they compete in the Mietta Song Recital Award for 2006 at the Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne.
Committee Chairman, Professor Emeritus John Poynter, announced today the semi-finalists competing are:
· Derek Welton (Baritone) from Victoria
· Amanda Cole (Mezzo Soprano) from New Zealand
· Leon Warnock (Baritone) from Queensland
· Judith Dodsworth (Soprano) from Victoria
· David Greco (Baritone) from New South Wales
· Alexandra Sherman (Mezzo Soprano) from Victoria
· Benjamin Martin (Tenor) from Tasmania
· Stuart Haycock (Tenor) from Western Australia
Professor Poynter said, “It is always exciting to receive so many entries for the Mietta Award and to welcome new emerging artists competing at this high level”.
Audiences can expect to be moved as they listen to arousing performances from the gifted vocalists - singing difficult compositions featuring poetry, philosophical statements or simple contemplations in languages including French, German, English and Italian composed from 1750 to today.
Semi finals will be held on Saturday 6 May
