Art on the Rocks 2006 calls for entries

Art on The Rocks, one of Sydney’s most popular and prestigious art competitions, today announced that artists are invited to submit artwork samples for the opportunity to be part of the fourth annual
event and the chance to win prizes from a total prize purse of $35,000.
Art on The Rocks takes place on 27 and 28 May in Sydney’s historic The Rocks precinct.
Accompanied by a backdrop of live music, 60 selected artists will create artworks capturing the essence of The Rocks and surrounding areas, while the public looks on for the rare experience of appreciating art through the artist’s eyes.
This popular event, which attracts more than 110,000 visitors annually, offers participating artists the opportunity to win The Art on The Rocks Prize of $20,000, the Emerging Artist Prize of $10,000 or the Art on The Rocks People’s Choice Prize of $5,000.
The event has as its Creative Consultant, David Handley, founder and director of Sculpture by the Sea and a selection and judging panel comprising Professor Noel Frankham, Professor of Art and
Head of the Tasmanian School of Art, John McDonald, Art Critic, The Sydney Morning Herald and painter Wendy Sharpe.
Judging for the three major prizes will take place and the winners announced at the launch of the Art on The Rocks Public Exhibition on Thursday 15 June in The Rocks. The public exhibition of artworks will remain on display and for sale between Friday 16 June and Sunday 2 July.
