ASQ players official press statement

Official press statement of ASQ Players

The present musicians of the Australian String Quartet wish to acknowledge the dedicated, valued effort and financial support that the Board of Directors provide. Without this, as well as sponsors, patrons, donors, The University of Adelaide and all government funding, the continued existence of the quartet would not be possible.

A special mention of thanks must be given to Jeanette Sandford-Morgan, of Adelaide, who successfully engineered the ASQ's twentieth Anniversary Gala Dinner last September. This achievement, backed by a hard working group of music lovers, resulted in substantial fund raising, which was much needed at the time.

There has been an ongoing difference of opinion between us and the management, concerning long-term artistic vision. Management's continued reluctance to implement the clear artistic direction shown by us resulted in a situation that became untenable. Recent comments made to the press by management distort the real breakdown that has most unfortunately occurred.

Dialogue has been taking place since last September in an attempt to rectify the situation. A long meeting between all parties concerned in January 2006, sadly resulted in the current impasse, with the board ultimately withdrawing their support.

Beyond the 2006 season, we the current players together with a new cellist, are pleased to announce that we will be continuing to perform and tour as a string quartet under a new name, alongside the finest quartets on the world stage.

We are thankful for the tremendous and ongoing support we receive from all the music loving public, both throughout Australia and overseas.
