Art prize celebrates 25 years with a re-launch

The Redland Art Awards, has bee relaunched this year with a new format and bigger prize-money to mark its 25th anniversary.
The Awards, hosted by the Yurara Art Society in Redlands, near Brisbane, will be held from October 29 to November 27 this year and have been re-positioned as a contemporary art award for painters.
Awards co-ordinator, Ellen Paxton said the revamped Awards would feature three prizes including a non-acquisitive first prize of $10,000 for the overall winner. The value of this prize would place the Awards among the more substantial art prizes in South East Queensland.
“The Redlands is a small regional art community but we have big ambitions – we want to make the Redland Art Awards one of the premier art events in the country,” Ms Paxton said.
“We hope to do this by attracting more major sponsors to the event and we’ll be approaching businesses in the South East early next year in the hope that there will be someone who can recognise the potential of this event,” she said.
The Awards have been relaunched with generous support from the Redland Shire Council. Paintings selected for hanging will be exhibited in the Redland Art Gallery from 29th October, 2006.
Artists nationwide are being invited to enter with all entries to be assessed by a panel comprising two respected members of the art community and a representative from the Redland Art Gallery.
The panel will select finalists’ paintings for exhibition in the gallery where they will be subject to a rigorous judging process. The winner will be announced at an exclusive function on 27th October, 2006.
Entries for the Redland Art Awards 2006 close on September 15, 2006.
