31 January 2006
The Saviour, written and directed by Peter Templeman (Australian Film Television Radio School 2005), and produced by Stuart Parkyn, has won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Short at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, USA – and eligibility to enter the 2007 Academy Awards®.
It was one of three Australian short films selected for competition at Slamdance. The win marks the first time a filmmaking team have won the Grand Jury prize two years in a row. Templeman and Parkyn won the same award last year with their short drama Splintered.
The film is also currently screening at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival in France, acknowledged as the most prestigious short film festival in the world. The Saviour is a finalist at Clermont-Ferrand in the International Competition category.
The Saviour has been a finalist in four international festivals since being released in May last year, with official selection in seven others, including the prestigious Telluride and Flickerfest Film Festivals. Peter Templeman's previous three short films have won 23 festival awards between them, including 11 Best Films and five Best Director awards.
