Beneath the Surface

13 April 2004

The Queensland Ballet is helping you come face to face with the magic behind dance, with the return of its popular Studio Series.

This year there will be three studio seasons at Brisbane’s Thomas Dixon Centre, each of which will focus on a different theme that explores the world of dance.

The ‘up close and personal’ setting of the Charles Lisner Studio of the Thomas Dixon Centre allows the audience to appreciate the athleticism and artistry of the dancers in a way rarely possible in a large theatre.

In Series 1, François Klaus will lead the audience in an exploration of this most physical of artforms looking at how he and other choreographers create dance works.

Series 2, entitled ‘Music that Dances’ will give audiences an insight into the role music plays in the creation of dance works by different choreographers, including the company’s own emerging choreographer, Timothy Brown.

Finally, Series 3 is a special program celebrating an exciting year of experimentation in the Thomas Dixon Centre for Dance.

Works by the Ballet’s creative team and by guest choreographers will be enhanced by the work of designers for this fascinating and unique night of dance in West End’s most popular studio theatre, in a night of dance that is not to be missed.

Come as you are, relax on the terrace with a pre-performance glass of wine and watch the dancers warm up – the Studio Series is the most enjoyable way to learn more about dance.
